The Centrepolis Accelerator was launched by Lawrence Technological University and the city of Southfield in 2018. It occupies a unique niche among business accelerators in that it concentrates on manufacturers and physical products, not software or apps. With federal, state, and nonprofit funding and support, it offers manufacturing startups and established companies assistance with getting new products to market — everything from market studies to design-for-manufacturability support to design and prototyping. It also offers its clients access to the faculty and students of Lawrence Tech for research and development help.

A key part of that assistance is Centrepolis Accelerator’s stable of over 30 experts in residence — experts with over 20 years of experience in fields such as product design, engineering, materials, prototyping, testing, machine design, and production processes.
