SOUTHFIELD–Volunteers are being sought to manage competitions in Oakland and Wayne counties of Mathcounts, a mathematics competition funded and coordinated by members of the Detroit Metro Chapter of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers.
Created in 1983 and open to students in the 6rh, 7th, and 8th grades, Mathcounts stimulates student interest by making mathematics achievement as challenging, exciting, and prestigious as school sports.
Volunteers will assist in the testing or scoring rooms with handing out tests, proctoring, or scoring tests. Each test must be scored by hand twice, so a significant number of volunteers are needed.
The Oakland County event will be held Saturday, Feb. 10 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Oakland University Engineering Cetner, 115 Library Drive in Rochester.
The Wayne County event will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 beginning at 8 a.m. at the University of Michigan-Dearborn Fairlane Center North, 19000 Hubbard Drive, Dearborn.
