SOUTHFIELD–The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Metro Detroit chapter will present a virtual event, “Acoustics in our Lives: Emphasis on Acoustical Materials to Reduce Vehicle Noise from Past to Future,” on Thursday, June 8 from 4 to 5 p.m. Eastern time.
The presenter will be Pranab Saha, a globally recognized authority on automotive noise, body interior systems, and sound package materials. He has more than 40 years of industry experience, and has been an industry entrepreneur as well, co-founding Kolano and Saha Engineers Inc. Currently, Saha solves noise-related issues in passenger cars, commercial vehicles, other transportation systems, appliances, and other products.
Saha is an active member of many professional associations, including ASME, SAE International, the Engineering Society of Detroit, INCE-USA, and NSPE/MSPE. As a lifelong contributor to SAE International, Saha assisted in the development of an SAE document, “How to Write an SAE Technical Paper,” which guides professionals through the technical paper writing process. He is the author of the book “Acoustical Materials: Solving the Challenge of Vehicle Noise”, published by SAE. He is also the lead faculty member of the SAE Vehicle Interior Noise Academy.
His presentation will discuss a variety of acoustic activities we experience every day, including:
* Examples of plant noise, community noise, acoustics of auditoriums, and more
* Examples of binaural measurements in the automotive and audio industries
* The latest testing and measurement methods being used explained with graphic examples
* Discussion on how to reduce vehicle noise using sound package materials from past to future with a focus on vehicle noise sources, both propulsion related and operation related.
The event is free, part of the chapter’s ongoing commitment to provide members and associates with the most up-to-date industry related technical data.
All attendees are eligible for a Professional Development Certificate showing one PDH hour of credit. If you require this, please indicate your request on the registration form.
