Lighting engineers to talk sustainability standards at ESD

SOUTHFIELD–IES, the Illuminating Engineering Society, will discuss sustainability standards in a meeting to take place Tuesday, April 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Engineering Society of Detroit, 20700 Civic Center Drive, Suite 450, Southfield.

The title of the event is “Meet the Metrics: LEED, WELL Building, and the Living Building Challenge.”

Organizers say sustainable building certifications are not a fraud, they’re a must for today’s commercial construction plrojects. The widespread pursuit of these certifications has not only improved the built environment, but it has also spawned creation of new certifications that go beyond energy codes to address health and well-being.

At the event, experts will compare the certifications, and show how they are based on the same set of standards and codes.

Cost of the event is $10 for students, $15 for IES Emerging Professionals, $20 for IES members, and $30 for non-members. The price includes a catered dinner.
