LOS ANGELES—Evgo, the California-based fast charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) powered by 100 percent renewable electricity, today announced a new partnership with Grand Rapids-based Meijer Inc. to install EV charging stations at its supercenters.
The EVgo public fast charging stations will start rolling out this summer, providing Meijer customers with the convenience of reliable fast charging for their vehicles as they shop. The partnership will add to the more than 800 fast charging locations EVgo already owns and operates today, while growing EVgo’s footprint and base of more than 220,000 customers nationwide. EVgo charging stations are capable of powering all fast-charge capable vehicles on the road today, including Teslas, pick-up trucks, and newly announced vehicles scheduled to come to market in the next year.
With more than 250 supercenters across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, and Wisconsin, Meijer is the pioneer of one-stop shopping, and a leader in sustainability. Since 2010, Meijer has been offering EV charging facilities at select stores and on its corporate campus. As part of its broader sustainability goals, Meijer recognizes the important role that EVs play in contributing to the nation’s move toward an increasingly low carbon fleet of consumer cars and trucks.
“Meijer and EVgo share an unwavering commitment to customer convenience and sustainability,” said Cathy Zoi, CEO of EVgo. “Enabling drivers to fast charge while they shop is what EVgo does, and it makes it easy for Americans to make EVs a part of their everyday lifestyle. An EVgo station attracts new and repeat customers looking to fast charge their vehicles up to 80 percent in 15 to 30 minutes. This new partnership between EVgo and Meijer is a huge win for drivers and our two companies.”
Meijer customers will have access to EVgo charging stations capable of 100 kilowatt to 350 kilowatt fast charging. In addition to providing accessible and conveniently located public fast charging stations, EVgo will manage the installation and ongoing operation and maintenance of the charging station. This eliminates the need for Meijer team members or facilities support to manage the stations.
