WASHINGTON, D.C.–DiscoverE, the organization behind National Engineers Week, is seeking volunteer judges for its Future City national competition in which middle schoolers design and build a model of a city set more than a century in the future.
Judges watch teams’ video presentations, ask teams questions live via Zoom, and use a detailed scoring rubric to determine the winners. Judges should be STEM buffs and city enthusiasts interested in hearing young people’s visions of the future.
People who can’t take part in the national finals on Saturday, March 6 can still volunteer as a video, model, or essay judge. These elements can be scored anytime between mid-February and early March. Those registering can simply check off what they’d like to judge. All judges are provided with detailed rubrics and training to guide the process.

The Michigan Regional Future City competition is managed by The Engineering Society of Detroit. The Michigan Regional will be held virtually on Thursday, Feb. 25.
