ACEC-Michigan names president, board, national rep

LANSING—The American Council of Engineering Companies/Michigan (ACEC/M) has announced Jack Wheatley, PE, vice president and director of corporate marketing at Farmington Hills-based Rowe Professional Services Co. as its 2020-2021 president.

Rowe is a professional engineering, surveying, planning, landscape architecture, and aerial photogrammetry firm with offices in Michigan and South Carolina.

Wheatley earned Bachelor of Science degrees in horticulture and civil engineering at Michigan State University. He joined Rowe in 1989 and has served as project manager on many public infrastructure projects. He became a licensed professional engineer in Michigan in 1994 and is also a licensed residential builder. Wheatley was named vice president and principal in 2010.

In addition to being the current president of the ACEC/M, he is also a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers (past Flint Chapter President and Young Engineer of the Year), and the Chi Epsilon Civil Engineering Honor Society. He is a past Flushing Community Schools board member and past member of the Flushing Rotary Club (Awarded Honorary “Paul Harris” Fellow; President 2006-07).

Also, the ACEC national organization announced that Michael Cooper, PE, president and managing principal of Harley Ellis Deveraux, has been named executive committee vice chair for 2020 through 2022. Cooper has been involved in complex building projects for more than 30 years and is responsible for all business operations of the firm’s Detroit office. He is a licensed engineering in 19 states and has written numerous articles and delivered numerous speeches on management and design issues. He has served on ACEC’s Planning Cabinet, ENR 500 Executive Steering Committee and the ACEC Life Health Trust, in addition to serving as a National Vice Chair.  He has also held all major leadership positions within the ACEC/Michigan member organization.
