Security, privacy top tech priorities, says new study from IT maintenance provider

GRAND RAPIDS–Service Express, a third-party technology maintenance provider based in Grand Rapids, released its 2020 Data Center & Infrastructure Report this week.

Service Express compiled the report with data collected from IT professionals nationwide to outline their data center priorities, challenges and infrastructure methods. Additional insights and strategic observations are included from CIO Todd Piper and CTO Jake Blough of Service Express.

Respondents identified the top priorities and challenges they are facing in the next 12-month cycle as an IT professional in the data center. The top priorities included strengthening security and privacy, improving internal processes and collaboration, and reducing IT costs and improving inefficiencies. Top challenges included IT budget and cost reductions, changing technology adoption, and addressing unexpected issues.

IT professionals were also asked to share their current and future plans regarding their on-premise, off-premise and data center colocation strategies. The top driver when considering deploying off-premise was identified as for IT disaster recovery and business continuity reasons.

More than 500 IT professionals throughout the US took part in this year’s survey. Participants represented organizations of differing sizes and industries with perspectives from a variety of roles, ranging from responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of an organization’s computer systems to administrative and/or supervisory authority of IT in an organization.
