LANSING – National and state experts on energy storage will be featured speakers at the Michigan Agency for Energy’s Plugging in to Storage conference on March 25.
The conference will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, at MAE’s offices at 7109 W. Saginaw Highway in Lansing.
Featured speakers will include:
- Jeremy Twitchell of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, who will provide an overview of the storage industry and development, and grid integration
- Nitzan Goldberger of the Energy Storage Association, who will cover energy storage challenges.
- Douglas Jester of 5 Lakes Energy, who will cover storage as a grid resource in Michigan.
- Representatives from Michigan utilities, regional transmission operators, electric cooperatives and others who will participate in panel discussions on energy storage considerations; energy storage in the real world: practical applications and considerations; and barriers to growth and state policy and regulatory challenges/solutions.
Also to be highlighted during the conference will be two Michigan energy storage projects: the Circuit West project in Grand Rapids and Michigan Technology University’s mine project in the Upper Peninsula.
There is no cost to attend the conference, and lunch will be provided. Attendees are asked to register by 5 p.m. March 21 here.

In 2018, the Michigan Senate passed Senate Resolution 170 and the Michigan House of Representatives passed Resolution 387, both directing the MAE to hold a “collaborative discussion” on the potential to integrate energy storage into Michigan’s electric market.
