STERLING HEIGHTS — Rave Computer, the Sterling Heights-based provider of computer hardware, modeling and simulation technology and IT services for the private sector and defense industry, announced that Sara Blackmer had been named the company’s new president, succeeding Rick Darter, a co-founder of the company established in 1988.
Blackmer joined the company last year as vice president and general manager.
Blackmer serves as a lieutenant colonel on the U.S. Air Force Reserves. She is also a member of the executive board of advisors for the Oakland University School of Engineering and Computer Science, and is on the executive board at the University of Michigan’s Michigan Translational Research and Commercialization Innovation Hub for Advanced Transportation.
Prior to joining Rave, Blackmer was director of government markets for Pratt & Miller Engineering, a specialty vehicle manufacturer in New Hudson; director of defense development for the Michigan Economic Development Corp.; and an associate at consultants Booz Allen Hamilton.
“Computing technologies and how they are deployed are evolving at warp speed,” Darter said. “These are very exciting times. Sara will bring new energy, skills and leadership to Rave. Her background perfectly aligns with Rave’s vision of the future. Through her leadership we will add new capabilities and discover new opportunities.”
Darter will continue to serve on the board of directors of Automation Alley and chair of its Modeling, Simulation, Visualization and Immersion Committee. He is also a director and first vice president of the National Defense Industry Association (NDIA) Michigan Chapter and director of the policy committee on the board of the National Modeling and Simulation Coalition.
