SOUTHFIELD — The Engineering Society of Detroit will again offer its Professional Engineering licensing exam review and prep courses this winter, offering members and non-members alike more than 70 years of experience in getting engineers ready to pass the exam on the first try.
The courses can be taken to gain licensing, or a la carte to meet new state continuing education requirements for engineers.
Since 1941, ESD has successfully prepared thousands of candidates for the state licensing exam in a variety of disciplines ranging from civil and environmental to mechanical and electrical engineering. Attendees learn in a small classroom-like setting from instructors who have first-hand knowledge of the course material.
The Fundamentals of Engineering (Part I) review course, intended for early-career engineers, begins Tuesday, Jan. 31. Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from Jan. 31-April 6, with additional classes on Saturdays for civil and mechanical engineering (8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 18-March 25 for civil, and 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 18-March 25 for mechanical).
The fee is $739 for ESD members and $899 for non-members. Non-members can join ESD for $99 and pay the member rate, saving $71.

The Principles & Practice of Enginering (PE) exam review course begins Feb. 18 and concludes March 25. Courses are offered Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for civil engineering, and 1 to 5 p.m. for mechanical, electrical and environmental engineering.
The PE class cost is $670 for ESD members and $870 for non-members. Non-members can also join ESD at the professional rate of $99 and pay the member price of $670, saving $101. There’s also a $25 early bird discount for registrations before Jan. 20.
For more information on the PE course, visit http://ww2.esd.org/education/pe.htm.
The state PE exam is offered April 21 and Oct. 27.
The courses can also be taken on an a la carte basis to meet new state continuing education requirements for engineers. More than 50 different courses are available, including civil, electrical, environmental and mechanical disciplines. The three-hour and four-hour courses are taught by industry professionals.
For a complete list of courses and dates and to register online, visit http://ww2.esd.org/EDUCATION/PE-CEH.htm. All courses take place at ESD Headquarters, 20700 Civic Center Drive, Suite 450, Southfield.
The cost of the courses a la carte is $75 per three hour course and $100 per four-hour course for ESD members, and $100 per three-hour course and $125 per four-hour course for nonmembers.
