M2 TechCast For Oct. 24: STEM Shortage, Small Biz, Entrepreneurship & More

SOUTHFIELD — A leader in Lawrence Technological University’s new program to help fill the STEM talent pipeline. The leader of Michigan’s small business assistance centers. The manager of a large program to train women entrepreneurs. And a high-tech entrepreneur.

That’s the lineup for the Monday, Oct. 24 edition of the M2 TechCast, the podcast that looks at technology from a Michigan perspective.

The TechCast kicks off at 3 p.m. Eastern time at www.podcastdetroit.com.

The first guest is Sibrina Collins, the inaugural director of Lawrence Tech’s Marburger STEM Center, The center aims to strengthen LTU’s existing outreach programs to boost STEM education at the K-12 level, and establish new ones. The move aims to counter a looming shortage in the STEM workforce, in fields as diverse as  electrical engineering, manufacturing engineering, cybersecurity, software development, and skilled trades.

Then it’s Keith Brophy, director of the Michigan Small Business Development Centers, and an entrepreneur guest to talk about small business in Michigan.

At 3:30, the guest will be Tember Shea, program director for inGage, which delivers programs to increase the number of women angel investors in Michigan; provides women access to our network of investors and advisors, guides women through the process of commercializing technology and assists emerging second-stage companies in identifying and seizing new market opportunities. Collectively, 79 women have graduated from the first six inGage cohorts. Tthose women have incorporated 38 new companies, created 234 new jobs, and have been granted 25 new patents. Furthermore, Inforum has confirmed 20 new women angel investors, and inGage-supported entrepreneurs have raised more than $19.7 million in new capital in the last three years.

The final guest is Amanda Lewan, co-founder of the co-working space Bamboo Detroit, and editor of the entrepreneurship blog Michipreneur.com, talking about what’s new on the Detroit tech startup scene.
