PLYMOUTH — Michigan users of Comcast Corp. X1 cable TV service can now download programs they have recorded on their digital video recorder to watch on internet-connected devices like computers, tablets, and smartphones, or stream them using an Internet connection, anytime and anywhere.
The new service, called X1 DVR with Cloud Technology, also provides customers access to virtually their entire TV channel lineup on any connected screen, such as mobile devices and computers, in their home.
“There’s been a significant shift in how people are consuming their favorite programming,” said Tim Collins, senior vice president of Comcast’s Heartland region, which includes Michigan. “Consumers want flexibility to watch TV shows and movies anywhere, anytime and on any device.”
X1 DVR with Cloud Technology gives customers more flexibility for viewing their favorite programming at home or on the go. While in the home, they can watch any recording on IP-enabled devices over Comcast’s managed network, or download recordings to take on the go. Out-of-home, they can use an Internet connection to stream or download their completed recordings as well. There is no additional charge for this service.
To deliver these new features, Comcast has also launched an Xfinity TV app for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones, and a dedicated portal for viewing on computers. To live stream their TV lineups or watch DVR and On Demand programming while on tablets or smartphones in their homes, customers can simply download the Xfinity TV app from the App Store, open the app and sign-in with their Xfinity TV credentials.
X1 customers get 500 Gigabytes of storage and have the ability to record up to six shows at once. Existing customers on the company’s legacy TV platform can enjoy X1 DVR with Cloud Technology and streaming services by upgrading to the X1 Entertainment Operating System. Existing X1 customers can contact Comcast to add the new service to their account.
