AT&T Brings Gigabit Speed To Michigan

DETROIT — AT&T Inc. said it is bringing 1 gigabit per second upload and download speeds to its AT&T Business Fiber internet customers.

Gigabit speed means businesses can download 8,000 pages of documents in a second, download a two-hour high-definition video in 36 minutes, and backup a one-terabyte hard drive in two and a half hours.

“Our business customers have told us they need fast and reliable network solutions to stay connected and competitive,” said Jim Murray, president of AT&T Michigan. “The new speeds available with AT&T Business Fiber provide just that.”

Internet speeds up to 1Gbps are available through AT&T Business Fiber in the metro Detroit area, and the outstate market areas of Ann Arbor, Battle Creek, Benton Harbor-St. Joseph, Big Rapids, Escanaba, Flint, Grand Rapids, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Marquette, Monroe, Niles, Saginaw, and Traverse City. The company said more gigabit service areas are coming soon.

AT&T also said it is launching nationwide U-verse Business Voice over AT&T Business Fiber. The voice over IP phone service delivers improved sound quality and high reliability. Customers also get many standard calling features, plus enhanced functionality not found on traditional landline phones, including a website that helps businesses  manage calling features, call preferences, voicemail and more.

The company said that about 1,000 multi-tenant office buildings are live with AT&T Business Fiber in Michigan. AT&T also says it invested nearly $1.65 billion in its Michigan area wireless and wireline networks from 2013 through 2015.
