Duo Security In New Partnership

ANN ARBOR — Duo Security, the Ann Arbor-based dual-factor authentication provider for computer security, announced a new partnership with Milpitas, Calif.-based Array Security.

In the partnership, Duo’s two-factor authentication system will be interoperable with Array’s AG Series Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network products, a form of VPN that can be used with a standard web browser.

Duo says its cloud-based secure access platform provides enhanced access controls for Array SSL VPN secure access products via mobile authentication, eliminating the need for hardware tokens and simplifying the user experience.

Duo Security’s two-factor authentication adds a second layer of security to VPNs, cloud apps and on-premises apps by using a second factor — such as smartphones, tablets or even a landline phone — to verify the user’s identity. Verification is accomplished through the Duo mobile app, SMS, voice call or other mechanisms. Using Duo, large networks, business applications and cloud services are secured against unauthorized access, even in the event that an unauthorized user were to guess the username and password of an authorized user.

Array’s AG Series SSL VPN Secure Access Gateways, which provide secure remote and mobile access to enterprise applications and cloud services. Through interoperability with Duo Security, users of AG Series secure access products can gain an additional layer of access control, which is often mandated by compliance regulations such as HIPAA and PCI, or desirable due to the confidential nature of materials accessed via the VPN.

Originally developed by Netscape, SSL is a protocol for transmitting private documents on the internet. It uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data — a public key known to everyone, and a private key known only to the recipient of the message. VPN is a network that uses the public internet to connect to a private network, such as a company’s internal network. These systems use encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the network and that the data cannot be intercepted.
