Italian Laser Maker Opens Sterling Heights Tech Center

STERLING HEIGHTS — An Italian manufacturer of laser cutting tools has opened a technology center in Sterling Heights.

Cy-Laser S.r.L. of Schio, Italy, held a grand opening to mark the opening of Cy-Laser America LLC. The 12,000-square-foot space includes a demonstration area and technical center.

Company officials said the tech center will start with three employees. The company is also seeking additional staff with administrative skills, as well as electrical and mechanical technicians.

Cy-Laser pioneered the application of today’s advanced solid state fiber laser generators to dedicated laser cutting systems. The company has built and shipped almost 200 systems since 2005, including close to 40 systems currently installed in the United States, sold by Cy Laser LLC of Geneva, Ill., exclusive sales arm for the United States and Canada.

The new building is at 6110 15 Mile Road in Sterling Heights.

Frank Vanin, area manager for Cy-Laser America LLC, and Massimo Denipoti, president of Cy-Laser LLC, welcomed guests and shared the company vision for serving and supporting users throughout North America from this new location.

“Our near-term goal is to offer additional technical support for our fiber lasers already in the field, and to facilitate dealer demonstrations for prospective buyers,” Denipoti said. “Shortly, this Center will house a supply of parts and accessories, in addition to those already available in Geneva, Illinois, for the convenience of our customers.”

Added Vanin: “Our investments in this building and these events are indicative of the value we place on doing business in North America. And, we are also expanding in Schio, to be ready to support our growing opportunities here.”

Cy-Laser produced its first fiber laser for metal cutting in 2004 and has been selling machines in North America since 2010. Michigan cusotmers include Knight Industries in Auburn Hills, Schwab Industries in Shelby Township, Diamond Moba Americas in Farmington Hills, Jorgenson Steel Machining & Fabrication in Tekonsha and Douglas Stamping Co. of Oak Park.
