TÜV SÜD America Expands Automotive Lab, Adds Staff In Michigan

AUBURN HILLS — TÜV SÜD America, the North American business unit of the Munich, Germany-based testing, inspection, and certification business, says it has moved to a new location and doubled its square footage.

The new office — at 30,000 square feet, twice as large as its former location — is at 1755 Atlantic Boulevard in Auburn Hills.

Ten additional thermal chambers were added, which include a combination of thermal shock, drive-in and reach-in configurations. Six new corrosion-erosion radiator stands were custom built, as well as a proprietary four-poster test rig for automobiles, which can be used for short term projects by automakers and suppliers to correct buzz, squeak and rattle issues.

There’s also a new four-inch electrodynamic shaker capable of sine wave, random and mechanical shock tests.

The company said it’s also adding staff for the additional test stations.

“TÜV SÜD is aggressively looking at ways to increase capacity in the transportation sector and this investment will improve our service delivery to the automotive, aerospace, rail and military industries,” said Darryl Flager, global business line manager for TÜV SÜD Canada.

The company said the new, larger location will also allow the relocation of its playground equipment testing group from its Plymouth office to Auburn Hills. There, the company will continue to offer International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association certification on public play equipment and public play surfacing materials.
