3D Printer Firm Integrates With Software Firm For Dental Implants

DEARBORN — EnvisionTEC, the German 3D printer manufacturer with its North American headquarters in Dearborn, announced the integration of the EnvisionTEC 3Dent 3D printer with 3Shape’s dental system and CAMbridge, for high-speed, precision production of models and dies for dental surgery.

The integration followed what the companies called an “extensive” validation and testing process of production on the 3D printers. They said the results exceeded the accuracy requirements of the dental market for models and dies.

The two companies also announced that drill guides designed using 3Shape Implant Studio software can now be 3D printed out on EnvisionTEC’s Micro Drill Guide Printer.

The integration between the two companies enables EnvisionTEC’s Micro DGP to print out Implant Studio-exported model drill guides. The drill guides are printed using Clear Guide M 3D printer material from EnvisionTEC.

Dental professionals design the guides using 3Shape Implant Studio software. The guides are based on previously approved planning of the implant position before implant surgery by a dentist. The drill guides are then used to direct drilling during dental implant surgery, enabling a predictable and faster implant treatment.

The companies said 3D printing of drill guides creates a more cost-efficient means for manufacturing the guides. Cost effectiveness that will enable more dental professionals to take advantage of the benefits of using guided surgery.

“The seamless integration enables more and more dental professionals to take advantage of precision-printed drill guides during implant procedures,” said 3Shape vice president of orthodontics and implantology, Allan Junge Hyldal. “Drill guides that are produced accurately and at a cost-effective price.”

Added Doug Stathhan, director of dental channel sales in North America for EnvisionTEC: “We are very pleased to offer our dental and dental lab customers a proven solution for manufacturing surgical guides now using the EnvisionTEC Micro DGP combined with 3Shape’s Implant Studio software, a solution that combines the latest products from two leading providers in digital dentistry, forming a powerful and affordable manufacturing tool.” said Doug Statham, Director of Dental Channel Sales in North America,

The 3Dent machine is already installed and integrated in the dental model production processes of many dental labs all over the world.
