ANN ARBOR — The Michigan Health & Hospital Association’s Keystone Center, a medical health quality monitoring nonprofit, has begun using RegistryMatrix from Ann Arbor-based ArborMetrix Inc. to monitor the appropriateness of obstetrics care being provided to patients across the state.
The MHA Keystone Center is using a customized version of the application with approximately 60 hospitals to capture obstetrics data and performance reports that can help improve patient safety and reduce costs.
RegistryMetrix is an advanced clinical registry tailored for the specific needs of specialty provider groups or quality improvement collaboratives. It enables organizations such as the MHA Keystone Center to define clinical measures for a specialty’s most important conditions and rapidly deploy comparative performance reports through a private cloud-based platform.
“The MHA Keystone Center is committed to working with physicians and hospitals to deploy evidence-based care to ensure babies born in Michigan arrive in the best health possible,” said Sam R. Watson, executive director of the MHA Keystone Center. “By benchmarking performance and outcomes for more than 60 hospitals throughout the state, RegistryMetrix allows us to better demonstrate the improvement when evidence-based practice is employed.”
The MHA Keystone Center will leverage RegistryMetrix’s analytics to measure performance based on goals set by The Joint Commission, American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology and California Maternal Quality Care Collaborative toolkits.
Measures include:
* Ensuring optimal care of women with preeclampsia
* Discouraging elective deliveries before 39-weeks’ gestation
* Increasing assessments and preparedness for post-partum hemorrhage
* Tracking newborn admissions to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU)
“ArborMetrix has demonstrated with the MHA Keystone Center and other collaboratives across the country that it offers the best clinical intelligence and insights on best practices that improve the quality of OB care,” said Brett Furst, CEO of ArborMetrix. “The MHA Keystone Center is a leader among U.S. healthcare associations when it comes to benefitting from clinical performance measurement analytics, including reducing costs by helping to reduce the number of complications, elective deliveries and NICU admissions. We are proud to work with the MHA Keystone Center to help them improve the safety and quality of care for patients and babies born in the State of Michigan.”
RegistryMetrix provides a data collection and management database accessible to health care centers across the state. With a variety of innovative formats to report and analyze data, the system enables collaborative learning that helps drive continuous improvement for all MHA Keystone Center hospitals.
The MHA Keystone Center is a nonprofit funded by MHA member hospitals, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Michigan Department of Community Health.
