SOUTHFIELD — The entry deadline is coming soon for three of the most prestigious honors granted by The Engineering Society of Detroit.
The deadline is Friday, Feb. 27 to submit entries for the annual ESD Construction and Design Awards, the ESD Alpha Awards for Innovation in Engineering and Technology, and nominations for the ESD College of Fellows.
Details on each award are as follows:
* The annual ESD Construction and Design Awards. Considered among the most prestigious awards for building projects in the industry, the ESD Construction and Design Awards are unique in that they honor the three primary members of the building team — owners, designers and constructors — and recognize outstanding team achievement and innovative use of technology. The awards were conceived 41 years ago to encourage elevation of the standard of practice in the construction industry. The awards are judged on several criteria, including evidence of effective teaming between the owner, designer and constructor, as evidenced by budget, salary and safety excellence; the quality of the overall design and construction; unique or innovative engineering solutions or construction techniques; and incorporation of sustainable design techniques.

* The ESD Alpha Awards for Innovation in Engineering and Technology. The ESD Alpha Awards recognize and celebrate the creative and original ideas of men and women in the engineering and technology professions who develop innovative solutions to benefit the needs of the general public, business or academia. Any product, material, system, structure, processes or methodology that is innovative in application or use, including inventions, is eligible. The innovation must have become commercially available, introduced into general, active practical use, or demonstrated new, unique applications within the last three years (since January 2012).
