Humanetics Acquires German Firm

PLYMOUTH — Humanetics Innovative Solutions Inc., the Plymouth-based developer of biofidelic crash test dummies, is pleased to announce the acquisition of FronTone GmbH, a manufacturer of advanced safety test equipment in Graz, Austria.

Humanetics said Klaus Matlschweiger will continue to lead FronTone as its managing director, along with the other members of the existing leadership team from its headquarters in Austria.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

FronTone’s products include dynamic sled, door intrusion, roof crush, and pedestrian and occupant protection test systems. Its unique, patented frictionless electric E-Liner drive system offers the most efficient testing process, providing precise and reproducible test results with the most accurate targeting for a wide range of industrial applications.

Founded in 2008, FronTone serves Daimler, BMW, Volkswagen, Volvo, Opel/GM, and Jaguar Land Rover as well as a number of the most prominent automotive suppliers.

Said Humanetics president and CEO Christopher O’Connor: “Mr. Matlschweiger and his team have successfully raised the industry benchmark for vehicle dynamic testing equipment with the company’s proprietary E-Liner equipment, which utilizes electric motors to drive more accurate, reliable and repeatable test results. FronTone’s extensive suite of advanced systems provides a significant enhancement to our existing test equipment platform and is an ideal complement to our crash test dummy product lines.”

Humanetics employs approximately 500 people, while FronTone has 20 employees. Company officials said Humanetics will continue to employ all the employees and both of their locations will remain open.
