
SOUTHFIELD — The Engineering Society of Detroit’s exclusive members-only tour series will gear up again after Labor Day.
The following tours are currently on the calendar:
* Munro & Associates Benchmark Innovation Center Tour, Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1:30 p.m. registration, 2 to 3 p.m. tour, 1749 Northwood Drive, Troy. Munro & Associates is a consulting engineering firm that specializes in helping its manufacturing customers increase profitability by improving quality, reliability and value while reducing total lifecycle costs. The tour will take place at one of their competitive product benchmarking and teardown facilities, where products are analyzed for total accounted cost reduction and quality improvements. Products including body panels, components and various parts from the automotive and aerospace industries, as well from the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning, home appliances and other industries will be on display. Munro’s “Design Prophet” and CEO, Sandy Munro, will also make a brief presentation and discuss how any industry can improve their products through proper lean product design. Mr. Munro is a frequent speaker and advisor to some of the world’s top executives on implementing change and innovative development strategies. Called a visionary and master innovator by NASA, Munro offers his clients a wealth of perspective and a penchant for technology transfer.
* General Dynamics Land Systems Maneuver Collaboration Center Tour, Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2:30 p.m. registration, 3 to 4 p.m. tour, 38500 Mound Road, Sterling Heights. Note: To guarantee a spot on this tour, you must be registered by Sept. 19. Registrations cannot be accepted after that time. The General Dynamics Land Systems Maneuver Collaboration Center (mc2) opened in October 2010 as a new model for collaboration that leverages GDLS’ strong system engineering and integration heritage. The mc2 collaboration brings together a virtual community as well as a state-of-the-art facility that enables collaboration between teams of world-class engineers, General Dynamic teammates, customers, suppliers, academia, and most importantly, Warfighters. The facility is a complete “alpha to omega” life cycle laboratory where promising ideas can be conceived, examined and implemented.
* CBS Radio Detroit Tour, Wednesday, Oct. 8, 4 p.m. registration, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. tour, 26455 American Drive, Southfield. Join The Engineering Society of Detroit for an insider’s look at CBS Radio Detroit’s new headquarters in Southfield. Check out high-tech audio and radio gear, today’s hottest music, media personalities, and Michigan’s only all-news radio station. The stations based in the building include WWJ Newsradio 950, 97.1 The Ticket sports talk, 98.7 AMP Radio More Hit Music, WOMC 104.3 Detroit’s Greatest Hits, and WYCD 99.5 Detroit’s Best Country.
