PONTIAC — Oakland County’s Medical Main Street life sciences economic development effort has opened nominations for its “Innovator of the Year” award, to be presented at Medical Main Street’s Inno-Vention 2014 conference Oct. 22 in Novi.
The award honors the creators of a medical device which demonstrates the most dramatic change in the health care industry in Michigan.
The deadline to submit an entry is Sept. 5. Forms and conference registration can be found at MedicalMainStreet.com.
To be considered for the award, the nominee must have developed a medical device in Michigan. Also, the device must have advanced to prototype development and validation and incorporate a game-changing innovation.
HistoSonics of Ann Arbor was named 2013 Innovator of the Year for its Vortx Rx, a medical device that uses sound energy to treat tissue inside the body without the need for traditional surgery.
HistoSonics president Chris Gibbons said the award has given the company greater visibility in the industry, as well as added credibility with potential investors. And she said, “The Inno-Vention conference was so well attended that it provided us plenty of opportunities for networking.”
Inno-Vention 2014 will be held Oct. 21 and 22 at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi. Information on the conference can be found at this link.
